Given the international travel restrictions due to COVID-19, this subject will be delivered virtually in 2021.
In this fully online subject, students will engage in a two-week immersive experience involving workshops and performance opportunities in traditional and contemporary music practices.
This subject is intended to broaden the students’ understanding of different generative practices as they occur in other cultures thereby expanding the musician’s palette of creative possibility.
This subject is only available to students enrolled in the Jazz and Improvisation major of the B-MUS.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- use informed listening to apply an understanding of music-making across diverse contexts;
- explain the sociocultural contexts and the sound structures of different music cultures;
- compose or improvise a piece of music utilising the international perspective and understanding of the cultural context.

Eligibility and requirements
Prerequisites
Selection of the Jazz and Improvisation major of the B-MUS Bachelor of Music.

PERMISSION OF COORDINATOR: Students are required to apply for permission to enrol in this subject via the online form at the Fine Arts and Music Current Students Forms page via this link:
