This subject provides students with the necessary expertise and skill to develop training materials for vocal coaching and communication scenarios in group and individual training sessions. Students will use coaching practice, observation and critical reflection to explore their coaching strengths and flexibility with supportive mentoring by staff and industry professionals. This subject introduces students to a variety of vocal coaching opportunities both in and outside of the creative industries including opportunities for the professional voice and speech coach in creative and educational settings. The necessary skills needed for collaboration, lesson-planning, and meeting the needs of the professional and/or creative brief in a variety of professional vocal coaching circumstances will be assessed via ongoing engagement in practical class work, a written exploration of a vocal coaching environment, and the development and delivery of vocal training classes designed for specific settings.
Intended learning outcomes
Upon completion of this subject students should be able to:
- apply an understanding of the work of the professional voice and speech coach to a creative or educational process and outcome;
- utilise a broad range of skills for collaboration, lesson-planning, individual and group coaching using practical exploration, seminars, individual mentoring and self-reflection;
- work effectively to a professional or creative brief;
- apply voice coaching skills flexibly to suit various professional circumstances;
- describe and evaluate the role of the voice coach in different environments, and critically reflect on the application of process in specific settings.
