Overview
The Language Testing specialisation is part of the Master of Applied Linguistics.
This specialisation focuses on the theory and practice of language assessment including test construction and validation, specific purposes tests, and alternative assessment practices, including classroom‐based and other broader social and professional contexts.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this specialisation, students should be able to:
- Describe current issues and debates in language assessment;
- Critically evaluate language assessment research and its applications;
- Apply theoretical frameworks of language assessment to create/analyse assessment tasks.

Structure
100 credit points
Students are required to complete the program requirements/structure from the year that they commenced their program. All required compulsory, core and capstone subjects must be completed to be eligible to graduate from the program.
100 point program
Duration: 1 year full-time / up to 2 years part-time
- two compulsory subjects (25 points)
- capstone subject (25 points)

elective subjects (50 points) including:
- Students with an ESL background can take a maximum of 25 points from the ESL elective list
- Remaining points must be selected from the graduate elective subject list
Capstone Stream 1: Minor thesis (25 points)
Purpose: An opportunity to integrate knowledge and research skills within the Language Testing specialisation
Capstone Streams 2: LING90041 Projects in Applied Linguistics (25 points)
Purpose: An opportunity to integrate knowledge and skills from the Language Testing specialisation to real-world projects
