This subject examines a range of positive psychological approaches that can be delivered to individuals, groups and communities across a variety of mediums. Students are introduced to the theory and research underlying different approaches, and through experiential learning approaches, beginning with self-experimentation and extending to others, students critically evaluate the contextual relevance of different approaches. A particular emphasis is given to intersections between research and practice, with implications for working with different populations, as well as novel interventions.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Evaluate a variety of positive psychological approaches personally and professionally.
- Translate research on positive interventions according to the needs of different groups and communities.
- Identify contextual factors that impact efficacy and effectiveness of positive psychological approaches.
- Demonstrate reflective practice regarding learning and professional application of positive psychological approaches.

- Problem solving skills that are creative, innovative and solution focused.
- Collaborative and teamwork skills through working with fellow students.
- Ability to critically investigate, revise and review new ideas and approaches.
