This subject provides an advanced level survey of major topics in organisational behaviour (OB) research with a focus on identifying emerging areas of research in the field and related disciplines of general management, applied psychology, organisational studies and human resource management. Topics discussed may include: personality and individual differences, diversity, psychological and social-psychological theories, employee motivation and well-being, creativity and innovation, organizational justice, theories of leadership, leadership emergence and effectiveness, team dynamics, organisational culture/climate, social capital in the workplace, multilevel theory of the organisation, and the dark side of organisational life.
Intended learning outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Analyse current topics in organisational behaviour, their genesis, and their implications
- Critically evaluate the theories and conceptual models that inform course topics
- Identify ways to develop and integrate course topics with related disciplines
- Understand how to operationalise course topics into studies that examine research questions on organisational phenomena
Generic skills
On successful completion of this subject, students should have improved the following generic skills:
- High level of development: written communication; statistical reasoning; evaluation of data and other information; accessing data and other information from a range of sources.
- Moderate level of development: oral communication; collaborative learning; problem solving; teamwork; application of theory to practice; interpretation and analysis; critical thinking; synthesis of data and other information; use of computer software; receptiveness to alternative ideas.
