This subject examines the skills required in the development of compositions, and creative arranging for small to medium size jazz ensembles. Through the provision of an intensive weekly platform for the presentation of new works through various stages of creation, the workshops will provide students with focussed feedback and explore rigorous workshop processes in order to develop original compositions from their early stages to completion.
The J&I Composition Workshop will be led by experienced practitioners in the field of contemporary jazz composition and arranging, delivered in practical sessions. Throughout the course students will be required to engage in rehearsals, composition development, performances and focused group discussions, covering aspects such as originality, creativity, arrangement, balance, interaction, dynamics, tempo, placement, style, rhythm and harmony.
