Overview
Performance is a flexible program tailored to meet your musical interests, skills and career pathways. This major centres on the study of a chosen instrument or voice to develop the skills expected of a performing artist.
Students hone music performance and applied music skills alongside historical, contextual and theoretical learning.
All students take Practical Music 1 and 2 in Year 1. From Year 2, students may continue in the Practical Music or Performance stream, which provide more demanding and specialised training in individual and ensemble performance.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this major, students should be able to:
- situate their interpretive practice and aesthetic position in the contemporary performance context;
- contextualise their repertoire and performing practice historically and culturally;
- engage critically and productively with current scholarship and performance;
- sustain a level of craft and artistic maturity on their instrument or voice;
- participate with ability and respect as a member of a performing group;
- uphold rigorous intellectual and ethical standards in performance planning, preparation and documentation;
- perform musical works and programs with assurance and stylistic awareness;
- apply critical intelligence, self-reflection and creative problem-solving to their development as performing musicians.
