Overview
The honours program in Architecture History, Theory and Criticism gives students the opportunity to complete an advanced course of study, including an independent research project on an area of interest approved by the specialisation coordinator.
Students must achieve a minimum of 65% in all subjects in order to qualify for the awarding of an honours degree.
Intended learning outcomes
On successful completion of this specialisation, students should be able to or have acquired:
- Demonstrate a detailed knowledge and understanding of Architecture History, Theory and Criticism
- Demonstrate the critical thinking and analytical skills to identify a current issue in Architecture History, Theory and Criticism, and formulate a research question to investigate this issue
- Understand the historical, environmental and social context of source material, and place research materials in a nuanced context
- Demonstrate a grasp of research methodologies appropriate to Architecture History, Theory and Criticism
- Ability to undertake a substantial piece of original, independent research
- An understanding of, and respect for academic honesty and ethical research
- Develop the written and verbal communication skills to articulate their research clearly to a variety of audiences.

Structure
100 credit points
Students undertaking honours in Architectural History, Theory and Criticism must complete:
- Research Methods in Design (12.5 points)
- Bachelor of Design Honours Thesis (50 points), consisting of Bachelor of Design Honours Thesis part 1 (12.5 points) and part 2 (37.5 points)
- 37.5 points Elective subjects
