Middle Years Programme

Intended learning outcomes

On completion of this specialisation students should be able to:

• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the values and philosophy of the IB Middle Years Programme within the school context;
• Critically examine the IB Middle Years Programme's underpinning educational principles and how these are incorporated into the curricular structure to create meaningful learning experiences;
• Critically analyse the role of the IB programmes within a broader education landscape;
• Plan and construct programmes of learning that incorporate IB Middle Years Programme standards and practices and address the objectives of the relevant subject specific and core element;
• Identify and critique the key areas of commonality and difference in the three IB programmes;
• Design learning activities and develop teaching strategies that support the achievement of IB Middle Years Programme learning objectives to meet the needs of all students;
• Demonstrate their understanding of the role that different forms of assessment play in supporting the achievement of IB Middle Years Programme learning objectives; and
• Undertake critical evaluation of planning, teaching and assessment activities and learning resources to assess their impact on student learning and where necessary revise their IB Middle Years Programme practices.
