The Master of Management provides specialist training in organisational management and in addition, offers opportunities for cross disciplinary studies. The program covers a broad spectrum of management activities including all the key areas needed to become a successful manager and leader, such as: managing innovation and change; motivating and leading people; developing strategies for national and global markets; and developing market-oriented organisations. The program is ideal for those seeking careers in general management or anyone whose current role requires enhanced managerial and leadership capabilities.
Entry requirements
1. In order to be considered for entry, applicants must have completed:
- an undergraduate degree in any discipline, or equivalent; and
- a personal statement outlining why they wish to be considered for the course.
Meeting these requirements does not guarantee selection.
2. In ranking applications, the Selection Committee will consider:
- prior academic performance; (in previous intakes, a University of Melbourne equivalent 70 weighted average mark has been competitive);
- the personal statement; and
- an interview or any other evidence required by the Panel (if required).
3. The Selection Panel may seek further information to clarify any aspect of an application in accordance with the Admission and Selection into Course Policy
4. The minimum English language requirements for this course are Band 6.5
Notes:
- Applicants with an undergraduate degree in a business/commerce or related discipline, or with a degree in any discipline with appropriate business breadth or minor, may be awarded up to 50 points of credit.
- Students who discontinue from the Master of Management (including any of its named streams) but have successfully completed the requirements of the Graduate Certificate in Management or the Graduate Diploma in Management will be eligible to receive the Graduate Certificate in Management or the Graduate Diploma in Management, respectively, as an exit award.
Guaranteed Pathway
For those applicants with an undergraduate degree in any discipline who are assessed as not meeting the University of Melbourne WAM-equivalent requirement for entry into the Master of Management, a place in the Graduate Certificate in Business may be offered. Successful completion of the Graduate Certificate with a minimum average WAM of 65, and no failed subjects, provides a guaranteed pathway into the 200-point Master of Management. Advanced Standing for subjects completed in the Graduate Certificate in Business will be provided where subjects undertaken align with equivalent foundation subjects to be completed as part of this degree.

Course structure
Completion of one entry point program is required.
The Master of Management has two entry point programs: 200pt and 150pt programs.
The Master of Management 200 Point (200pt) program consists of 16 subjects comprising four foundation subjects, two core subjects, five discipline core subjects, two capstone subjects and three elective subjects.
Students who wish to take more discipline core and/or capstone subjects can do so through selecting them in the electives list and completing them as elective subjects.
Students who are in a 150 point version of the course should refer to the 'majors, minors and specialistions' section for their course structure.

Part-time, full-time and accelerated study plan options:
The 200 point study plan can be completed in 18 to 24 months of full-time study.
- Full-time students take four subjects per standard semester for four semesters (approximately 2 years) and may opt to take additional subjects in summer and winter semesters to reduce the duration of their program.
- Part-time students usually enrol in one or two subjects per semester.
The 150 point study plan can be completed in 12 to 18 months of full-time study.
- Full-time students take four subjects per standard semester for three semesters (approximately 1.5 years) and may opt to take additional subjects in summer and winter semesters to reduce the duration of their program.
- Part-time students usually enrol in one or two subjects per semester.
Graduate Certificate in Management
Students enrolled in any Master of Management programs who are either unable, or who choose not to continue with their studies, may be eligible to exit with a Graduate Certificate in Management.
- Master of Management students enrolled in 200 point programs who wish to exit with the Graduate Certificate must complete 100 points of Master of Management subjects (50 points of which must be core subjects).
- Master of Management students with cognate backgrounds who are following the 150 point study plan and wish to exit with the Graduate Certificate must complete 50 points of Master of Management subjects (25 points of which must be core subjects).
Graduate Diploma in Management
Students enrolled in any Master of Management programs who are either unable, or who choose not to continue with their studies, may be eligible to exit with a Graduate Diploma in Management.
- Master of Management students enrolled in 200 point programs who wish to exit with the Graduate Diploma must complete 150 points of Master of Management subjects (75 points of which must be core subjects).
- Master of Management students with cognate backgrounds who are following the 150 point study plan and wish to exit with the Graduate Diploma must complete 100 points of Master of Management subjects (50 points of which must be core subjects).
