Intended learning outcomes
Graduates of a Master of Industrial Research (Chemistry) will have:
Knowledge
- Advanced knowledge of research and regulatory principles and methods applicable to the chemical industry.
- Advanced scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding of recent developments in industrial chemical research.
Skills
- Cognitive, technical and creative skills to investigate, analyse and solve problems related to the chemical industry.
- Cognitive, technical and creative skills to generate and evaluate complex new ideas and concepts at both abstract and applied levels.
- Technical and communication skills to aarticulate, evaluate and disseminate the methods and results of industrial scientific research.
- Cognitive skills to identify and affirm the principles of ethical scientific practice.
Application
- with initiative, autonomy and creativity to solve problems in the context of the chemical industry.
- in the design, execution and critical review of research undertaken in the industrial context.
- to explain the role of science in addressing current issues facing local and global communities, including the role of both fundamental and applied research in addressing real-world challenges.

Graduate attributes
The Masters of Industrial Research (Chemistry) degree at the University of Melbourne seeks to develop graduates who have a capacity for defining and managing an industry focused research project characterised by originality, independence and industrial relevance. Their training equips them for a career in industry or more sustained and original work at the doctoral level, or for applied research positions in a wide variety of contexts.
