This subject applies the screen acting techniques learned in Screen Acting 1 and 2 and introduces the student to the business of acting.
Students perform, design, and produce a recorded showcase. The showcase will consist of digitally recorded dramatic and comedic scenes and streaming projects. These projects will involve the production of short form digital media projects, such as a pilot for a comedy and drama series or short episodes. Students refine on camera acting techniques to develop characters and methods of acting suitable for television, film, streaming series, commercials, and industrials.
Screen Acting 3 embeds critical, non-performance skills needed to build career pathways. Students will learn how to develop their business as actors, incorporating proactive and strategic approaches to career development: marketing aesthetic and branding designed for agents, websites and social media content, as well as learning how to conduct meetings with casting directors, agents, and international management teams.
Students write an exegesis based on their research, methodology and production of the end of year showreels and the development of a business plan. At the conclusion of this subject, there will be a public presentation of showreels produced by the graduating students at a venue in the VCA with invited industry guests.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- perform, design, and produce recorded scenes of different genres;
- apply knowledge in actor branding, marketing aesthetic and media outreach;
- critically evaluate acting portfolio and create an actor business plan.
- critically evaluate the efficacies of applied methodologies in a professional context.
