Topics selected in consultation with the coordinator. Enrolment in the thesis is across two consecutive semesters and students must enrol in the subject in each semester to ensure they are meeting the full 50 point requirement for the year-long subject.
Intended learning outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students should have:
- Developed their skills in the forms of scholarly and critical analysis and inquiry appropriate to English and Theatre Studies
- Brought an independent research project from inception and development to completion
- Learnt how to develop their research ideas and improve their writing skills under supervision
- Significantly enhanced their understanding of a specific area or methodology in English and Theatre Studies

- Conceptualising and planning a substantial project of original research

Hurdle requirement: Students are required to attend a minimum of 80% of supervision meetings in order to qualify to have their written work assessed. Any student who fails to meet this hurdle without valid reason will not be eligible to pass the subject. All pieces of assessment must be submitted to pass this subject. This subject is taught over two consecutive semesters. Total time commitment for the subject is approximately 680 hours, inclusive of two semesters (thesis Part 1 and Part 2).

This is part of a 50 point thesis subject, continuing over two consecutive study periods.
Students are required to enrol in:
- ENGL40026 English & Theatre Studies Thesis Part 1 (25 points) and
- ENGL40027 English & Theatre Studies Thesis Part 2 (25 points), consecutively.
Students will receive a ‘CNT’ grade in the part 1 and results will be entered if and when both part 1 and 2 are completed.
