Building from Animation Studio 2B, this subject extends skills and knowledge to an advanced level in concept research and development, screenwriting, storyboarding, character and world design, animation performance, animation testing and pre-production planning.
Students will research, write, develop and design an original animation project to go into production in Semester 2, creating a pre-production folio, a screenplay and an animatic to a professional standard that will be production ready by the end of semester.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- demonstrate advanced research skills for an animation production;
- demonstrate the ability to analyse and critically evaluate animation concepts, scripts and design in development;
- design a methodical pre-production workflow bringing an idea from concept to production readiness;
- prepare and organise pre-production materials to brief a creative team;
- devise animation experiments that test techniques and tools;
- create characters, worlds, scenes and actions expressed through a screenplay and storyboard;
- review screenplays and storyboards to be production ready.
