Students may enrol in this subject only with the prior permission of the Program Director and following discussion and submission of an acceptable written project proposal. The proposal must be submitted at least three weeks before the start of semester, and approval finalised before the start of the semester. The final project must be submitted at the end of the relevant semester.
This subject is only available to students enrolled in the Master of Finance or Master of Finance (Enhanced).
Students have the option of two pathways:
Pathway A - Industry, is recommended for students in the Master of Finance. Students in Pathway A will spend time working directly with an Industry Partner. The exact time commitment will be agreed with each Industry Partner.
Pathway B - Academic Research, is recommended for students in the Master of Finance (Enhanced). Students in Pathway B are encouraged to select a research topic which aligns with their previous and/or future career activities or interests.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Undertake a substantial applied research project (academic or industry focus) requiring and independent investigation on an approved topic in finance.
- Collect and analyse a range of data (both qualitative and/or quantitative) to improve our collective understanding of the chosen topic
- Devise a method of investigation to improve knowledge or understanding the topic identified
- Write a project report that documents the issue, synthesises the data and recommends solutions to the issue identified
- Present the findings orally to an audience of academics or industry experts.

Eligibility and requirements
Prerequisites
Admission into the MC-FINANCE Master of Finance, MC-FINENH Master of Finance (Enhanced)
AND
Completion of a minimum of 100 credit points of study
AND
Enrolment in this subject requires permission of the Program Director and discussion and submission of an acceptable written project proposal.

Recommended background knowledge
For Pathway A (with industry partner), Python or other programming skills desirable.
