This subject investigates communication of interactive media. This is achieved through a series of studio-based projects that range from simple website design to complex interactive public installations.
Students will explore wide-ranging possibilities and contexts of contemporary, electronically formed, communication. This practical exploration is supported by classes in coding, talks and readings in historical and contemporary interactive media.
Students will progressively craft an industry-ready folio of graphic designs.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- research and analyse innovative cross-cultural graphic approaches to interactive media;
- prepare a strategic design response to a brief informed by historical and cultural research;
- develop, refine and reflect on interactive media craft;
- apply interactive media communication techniques and expressions;
- create a cohesive and experiential interactive media folio to a professional studio standard.
Generic skills
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- apply problem-solving and analytical thinking skills to undertake critical analysis;
- articulate and present ideas from a range of design precedents;
- develop and communicate concepts by working with different design methodologies;
- demonstrate an understanding of challenges for the professional visual artist in the 21st century;
- sustain an understanding of their relationship with and responsibility to the cultural environment and society.

Hurdle requirement: Submission of industry-ready folio complete with designs completed in Project 1, Project 2, and the Research Journal. For the purposes of meeting this hurdle requirement, each submitted assessment must be complete and constitute a genuine attempt to address the requirements of the task. Submitting only part of an assessment (e.g. only the title page) or an assessment on an irrelevant topic will not meet this hurdle requirement. | Throughout the teaching period | N/A |
