This subject continues to build on the skills acquired in Ensemble Studies 1-4, with students expected to take on leadership roles in an ensemble context. Ensemble studies are led by experienced practitioners in the field of contemporary music performance and delivered in practical sessions.
Throughout the course students will be required to engage in rehearsals, repertoire development, performances and focused group discussions, covering aspects such as interpretation, arrangement, originality, creativity, balance, interaction, dynamics, tempo, placement, style, rhythm and harmony.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- apply advanced composition and improvisation skills to a wide spectrum of music;
- apply advanced interpretive and performance skills to original repertoire;
- work in a wide variety of musical styles, both individually and as a team member;
- demonstrate a professional performance awareness;
- contribute an individual style to group performance.

On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- have in-depth knowledge of their specialist discipline;
- have reached a high level of achievement in creative artistic practice, problem solving and communication;
- be critical and creative thinkers, with an aptitude for continued self-directed learning;
