Coaching Lab 2 is the second of two subjects that focus on the learning and application of a range of tools a vocal coach may need when working with actors towards performance.
Students undertaking this subject will return to the masterclass format to develop vocal coaching exercises and strategies for performers in a professional forum. Through these sessions, students will be expected to critically engage with more advanced pedagogical approaches to voice coaching. In addition, group-based tutorials and individual coaching sessions will afford students the opportunity to refine their own practice as voice coaches, equipping them to be effective in a variety of professional contexts.
Students will be assessed on their engagement via reflective journaling of their own development through the semester, and through two examined practical coaching exercises.
Intended learning outcomes
Upon completion of this subject students should be able to:
- produce and evaluate practical vocal training exercises for the coaching of individual performers;
- prioritise coaching techniques that develop performers' voices within given timeframes;
- articulate for specialists and non-specialists the objectives for vocal techniques utilised in coaching tasks.
