Overview
Intended learning outcomes
In addition to the learning outcomes of the Master of Civil Engineering listed, students should:
- have gained knowledge and practice in advanced transport engineering topics including transport modelling and simulation, freight systems and models, data analysis, statistics and econometrics, traffic flow theory, roadway geometric design, public transport system planning and operations, intelligent transport systems, traffic operations and management, concepts of transport accessibility, efficiency, sustainability, and equity;
- be able to develop travel demand forecasting models, transport network models, and freight models at the operational, tactical and strategic levels;
- be able to design public transport network and service plan, roadway geometric specification, and traffic signal plans;
- be able to evaluate transport and freight projects and initiatives, and perform triple-bottom-line analysis and make recommendations to improve sustainability and safety objectives of transport and freight systems;
- have had the opportunity to develop research principles and methods in the field of transport engineering.

Structure
50 credit points
The Transport specialisation is completed by undertaking specific subjects (50 credit points embedded within Year 2 and 3 requirements).
Note:
Students entering the course with advanced standing who plan on completing a specialisation may need to enrol in core specialisation subjects in their commencing semester. Please check and follow the structure outlined for your intended specialisation and seek course planning advice.
To obtain a specialisation in Transport, students must complete:
- 12.5 credit points of Year 2 core specialisation subject
- 75 credit points of Year 2 compulsory subjects
- 12.5 credit points of Year 2 selective subjects
- 37.5 credit points of Year 3 core specialisation subjects
- 37.5 credit points of Year 3 compulsory subjects
Year 1:
- 100 credit points of Year 1 compulsory subjects
Year 2:
- 12.5 credit points of Year 2 core specialisation subject
- 75 credit points of Year 2 compulsory subjects
- 12.5 credit points of Year 2 selective subjects
Year 3:
- 37.5 credit points of Year 3 core specialisation subjects
- 37.5 credit points of Year 3 compulsory subjects
- 25 credit points of Capstone subjects
