This subject introduces students to key foundational concepts of self-awareness, reflective practice, and the dynamic nature of working with diverse populations in a healthcare setting, contextualised through a hearing health lens. On completion of the subject, students will be able to describe how individual attributes (of both themselves and others) impact professional practice in a clinical setting. Students will be able to demonstrate awareness of the foundational skills required for clinical practice.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Outline and employ knowledge of professional boundaries and self-awareness to basic clinical practice.
- Describe the importance of reflective practice in the context of modern healthcare.
- Identify the importance of mental health and wellbeing awareness in self and others.
- Explain where the audiologist fits within the health system at a local, population and global level.
- Recognise the ethical and legal boundaries of audiology practice.
- Adapt communication for clients with differing backgrounds, needs and requirements.

- Communicate clearly in written and oral forms;
- Work as part of a team to address a common goal;
