In this subject, students will develop knowledge and skills in using dance and movement in the embodied relationship fundamental to dance movement therapy.
Students will develop their capacity to use dance as expressive medium to enhance clients’ movement experience and wellbeing and stimulate creativity and expressivity. This will include practice in the use of a full functional and expressive movement repertoire.
A range of tools to enhance the therapeutic experience will be introduced including improvisation scores, symbols and imagery (including anatomical imagery), props (objects that stimulate diverse movement experiences such as fabric, balls, feathers), music and other artforms. These will be applied in experiential learning sessions, supported by reflection, discussion and independent reading.
