This subject will provide students with a capstone experience of independently designing and implementing a creative arts therapies program and receiving feedback to inform continual development.
Students will develop expertise in integrating theory, research, and methods into a practice context. They will be able to insightfully represent the creative arts therapies within the team and highlight how their professional skills can be used to address needs of individuals and groups, as well as address barriers and opportunities in diverse contexts.
Students will develop a capacity for self-reflection on their role with individuals and groups and within the workplace and the broader social context.
Placement
Students are required to complete a supervised practical placement (160 accreditation hours) and will work across a range of tasks relevant to the external partner's objectives in discussion with a qualified professional and the subject coordinator.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- identify, analyse, justify and apply contemporary, relevant theories to various contexts in professional practice;
- self-reflect on professional relationships with others, in the workplace and social context;
- explain how the creative arts can address barriers and opportunities in diverse contexts;
- design and implement a creative arts therapy program in a novel context;
- reflect deeply on power, privilege and oppressive dynamics in diverse workplaces.
Generic skills
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- apply a wide range of idea creation techniques;
- interpret and present data logically and effectively;
- demonstrate empathy and ability to overcome stereotypes and prejudices;
- integrate personal reflection into the creative process;
- make effective use of planning skills;
- promote and maintain the wellbeing of self and others.
