This subject involves a study of an approved topic in the languages. Details of the program being offered will be available from the graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Students who complete this subject successfully should have demonstrated a specialist understanding of the topic, contributed effectively to the work of the seminar, shown a capacity for an advanced level of analysis and familiarised themselves with the latest directions of research into that particular topic.
Intended learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Utilise rigorous methods of inquiry and appropriate theories and methodologies to conduct foundational research applicable to their program of study
- Apply critical frameworks in investigating and analysing complex and diverse issues relevant to their program of study
- Communicate effectively in appropriate academic language.
Generic skills
Students who complete this subject should have:
- Enhanced written and oral communication skills through essay writing and seminar discussion
- A deepened understanding of issues of key concern to the topic
- An understanding of the relationship between the topic and a broad range of current issues in languages.

Eligibility and requirements
Prerequisites
Admission into or selection of one of the following:
- GC-ARTS Graduate Certificate in Arts
- GD-ARTS Graduate Diploma in Arts
AND
A minimum of 25 points of language subject in the language specialisation and approval from the language discipline coordinator

Hurdle requirement: 2. Late Penalty and Assessment hurdle requirement: Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at five per cent (5%) of the possible marks available for the assessment task per day or part thereof. All pieces of assessment must be submitted to pass the subject. Each submitted assessment must be complete, constitute a genuine attempt to address the requirements of the task and will not be accepted after 20 University business days from the original assessment due date without written approval. | Throughout the semester | N/A |
