This Department of Medicine Honours program is designed to offer projects that are at the leading edge of medical research into human diseases and that are especially tailored for students who are not enrolled in Medicine. The specialisations that we promote are framed within a worldleading institute, the Australian Institute for Musculoskeletal Science (AIMSS). AIMSS interacts within many national and international collaborations and this diversity promotes a comprehensive approach to research into the musculoskeletal sciences.
The Honours Program year starts in February and ends in November and is only available full time.
Intended learning outcomes
Upon completion of this subject, students should have demonstrated their ability to:
- Select, summarise and critically appraise published research in an area of population health
- Formulate a research question based upon a synthesis of the published research evidence
- Design and justify an appropriate research design to answer a research question in population health
- Conduct supervised research in a specific area of population health research
- Communicate the method and findings of a research project in oral and written form
Generic skills
- Development of research skills and capabilities
- Ability to access, assess and interpret current scientific literature
- Proficiency in being able to summarise and present a comprehensive overview of a topics
- Writing skills and presentation skills for presentation of research information and data to a broad audience

Eligibility and requirements
Prerequisites
Admission into or selection of one of the following:
- BH-BMED Bachelor of Biomedicine (Degree with Honours)
- BH-SCI Bachelor of Science (Degree with Honours)
AND
Admission into the Medicine (Western Health) Honours Stream
Corequisites
None
Non-allowed subjects
None
Recommended background knowledge
Background in basic sciences and/or biomedical sciences.
