This subject has been designed and developed for online delivery and assessment only.
This online subject introduces and develops techniques for composing and arranging for small and medium-sized ensembles.
In weekly online workshops directed by experienced practitioners in the field of contemporary jazz, students present in-progress, original composition for feedback, discussion and development. Discussions examine topics related to originality and creativity, the process of revision and development, and musical elements and techniques.
This subject is only available to students enrolled in the Jazz and Improvisation major of the B-MUS Bachelor of Music.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- compose and arrange an original work for a small to medium-sized ensemble;
- critique composition and arrangement development during the creative process;
- apply feedback in response to compositional problems.

On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- demonstrate in-depth knowledge of their specialist discipline;
- display a high level of achievement in creative artistic practice, problem-solving and communication;
- engage in constructive critical discussions;
- apply critical and creative thinking, with an aptitude for continued self-directed learning;
