The Opera Atelier elective offers students in the Master of Music (Opera Performance) an immersive two-week experience.
This subject will focus on continuing the development of high-level performance-ready skills in acting and singing for opera. Students will engage in a daily program of specialist studio-based workshops, working with a diverse range of the world’s best opera performance teachers. Additionally, students will attend a production by a leading professional opera company.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- effectively engage in practical workshops and classes, demonstrating commitment to the development and application of skills in studio tasks and self-directed practice;
- critically evaluate their own learning, independent practice and performance;
- examine professional expectations and practices of opera performance;
- articulate the contribution of professional perspective and cultural context to the development of a personal operatic performance practice.
Generic skills
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- demonstrate skills in evaluative thinking;
- demonstrate the application of analytical criteria to practical outcomes;
- communicate effectively, in oral, written and presentational forms;
- plan effectively to meet deadlines.
