This subject covers Nuclear Medicine and Paediatric imaging and pathology. It aims to enhance observational, analytical and communication skills of radiology trainees in their 3rd year of RANZCR training whilst simultaneously providing a comprehensive foundation in critical and evaluative skills in image interpretation.
Students will acquire a broad range of competencies, knowledge and understanding of key radiological diagnoses across a variety of imaging modalities for effective patient management and care.
Teaching methods include lectures and interactive tutorial case based sessions facilitated by subspecialist expert radiologists and pathologists, with a focus on case based learning blueprinted to the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) curriculum.
Assessment tasks include; Oral case based and formal written examinations.
Intended learning outcomes
On successful completion in the areas of Nuclear Medicine and Paediatrics candidates will be able to:
- Demonstrate an ability to accurately interpret both normal and common abnormal radiological findings on various imaging modalities including Plain Xray, CT, ultrasound, MRI, Angiography; Nuclear medicine, including PET
- Demonstrate an ability to recognize common pathologies relevant to radiology
- Discuss the choice of imaging modality for common radiological conditions, taking into account radiation safety issues (ALARA principles)
- Successfully present written and oral radiology cases in a preparatory format for the RANZCR examination
