This subject aims to provide students internship opportunities. Students will learn to develop an in-depth understanding of, and a clear conviction for the career of a professional translator, and are expected to undertake approximately 80 hours of professional work experience at an industry partner’s premise.
Students should only be enrolled in this subject if they have secured professional work placement that has been approved by the subject coordinator.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Apply theoretical concepts and analytical frameworks to the production and analysis of translations in the real world
- Facilitate communication in diverse and complex linguistic, social-cultural settings through translation and/or interpreting and demonstrate leadership in these situation
- Work effectively and productively in a group situation
- Gain a broad insight on working as a professional translator.
Generic skills
- Gain advanced and integrated knowledge through practice and problem-solving processes
- Identify social, cultural and global issues and their ethical implications in a range of multi-cultural and multi-linguistic context
- Communicate effectively with people from diverse cultural, social and linguistic backgrounds.

Eligibility and requirements
Prerequisites
Admission into the MC-TRANINT Master of Translation and Interpreting
AND
Completion of a minimum of 50 credit points of study in the course.
AND
Students should only be enrolled in this subject if they have secured professional work placement that has been approved by the subject coordinator.

Hurdle requirement: Late Penalty and Assessment hurdle requirement: Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at five per cent (5%) of the possible marks available for the assessment task per day or part thereof. All pieces of assessment must be submitted to pass the subject. Each submitted assessment must be complete, constitute a genuine attempt to address the requirements of the task and will not be accepted after 20 University business days from the original assessment due date without written approval. | Throughout the semester | N/A |
