Overview
Currently, there is no pure honours program in Russian Studies. This means that students must combine fourth-year honours in Russian Studies with another program in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne.
The honours program in Russian Studies comprises advanced coursework and an individual research project designed to extend students' knowledge and skills in one specific field of Russian studies (such as Russian linguistics, Russian literary studies or Russian cultural studies). After successfully completing the program, students will have gained considerable practical skills such as research skills, report writing skills, presentation and communication skills, language skills and cultural awareness.
The prerequisites for entry to Russian Studies honours are completion of all the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts, completion of a major in Russian and an average of at least H2B (70%) in second and third-year subjects within the major, or equivalent.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this specialisation, students should be able to:
- Communicate effectively in a range of written and oral genres and social contexts in Russian
- Apply advanced knowledge of Russian language and of Russian culture and society in relevant professional and academic contexts
- Utilise rigorous methods of inquiry and theories and methodologies appropriate to Russian Studies
- Construct and sustain an argument based on research.
