The research essay itself is examined. A draft is due for submission on the second Monday of October; the final version on the second Monday of November. Students will be required to present their honours research essay to the Department at various stages of its development throughout the year. Students are also required to attend at least four Melbourne Accounting Research Seminars per semester.
Intended learning outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Synthesise current research literature with a view to identifying a research question that is relevant to the area chosen for the research project and that makes a significant contribution to the research literature;
- Critically evaluate the extant research literature in the field chosen for the research project from both a theoretical and empirical point of view;
- Independently research the project topic, using a wide range of source material; and
- Complete a research topic which is well written including in terms of its structure and argument.
Generic skills
On successful completion of this subject, students should have improved the following generic skills:
- High level of development: oral communication; written communication; problem solving; statistical reasoning; interpretation and analysis; critical thinking; synthesis of data and other information; evaluation of data and other information; accessing data and other information from a range of sources; receptiveness to alternative ideas.
- Moderate level of development: application of theory to practice, use of computer software.
- Some level of development: collaborative learning; team work.
