This subject is designed to enable students to engage with Chinese language specialised academic research on social and cultural studies topics. Students will acquire skills in reading and analysis of academic Chinese. They will also gain experience in oral discussions, presentations and essay writing in Chinese on scholarly topics.
Intended learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this subject should be able to:
- Demonstrate a sound understanding of social and cultural contexts within Chinese texts
- Acquire enhanced skills in reading, writing and giving oral presentations in Chinese on various disciplinary topics
- Consolidate skills in time-management and teamwork through timely completion of group and individual projects and cohesive group presentations.
Generic skills
Students who successfully complete this subject should be able to:
- Time management skills: Students will develop abilities to manage and organise workload for recommended readings, oral presentation and essay completion
- Public speaking skills: Student will develop public speaking skills in Mandarin through tutorial discussions and oral preparation
- Attention to detail: Students will develop their abilities to understand cultural and linguistic nuances through essay preparation.
