This subject will provide an overview of therapy and research-based knowledge about the ways that creative arts therapists practice in educational contexts.
Mainstream and special education will be two of the primary contexts emphasised for young people, whilst adult education and the acquisition of skills in therapy will be the focus for older people. Theories that inform mental health approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and other Behavioural approaches will be highlighted.
Students will learn about working as a creative arts therapist with people in the disability sector, including those who are disabled by diverse physical, intellectual, and mental health capacities. Distinctions between the practices of drama, dance movement, music and art therapies will be canvassed.

- distinguish practice models and theoretical orientations appropriate for working as a creative arts therapist in education contexts;

- apply critical thinking and analytical problem-solving skills to unfamiliar challenges;
