This subject will provide an overview of therapy and research-based knowledge about the ways that creative arts therapists practice in medical contexts.
The design of treatment programs in paediatric and adult hospitals will be explored, with consideration given to the various illnesses and injuries frequently encountered in these contexts. Treatments that focus on physical and mental health outcomes will be delineated, with expert models of practice being highlighted in acute and rehabilitation contexts.
Contemporary practice in other medically informed contexts will also be explored, including nursing homes and inpatient mental health facilities.
