The module examines processes of internationalisation in private sector, public sector, multilateral institutions and non-governmental organizations, examining the challenges and opportunities for addressing a range of global socio-economic development issues in relation to stakeholder impacts. You will examine global trends including the formation of public/INGO private partnerships, corporate social entrepreneurship, new forms of business models, value chain arrangements and open innovation.
Intended learning outcomes
Students should be able to:
Knowledge and Understanding
- Explain the implications of cross-cultural work, value chain innovations and dynamics, strategic decision –making and complex multi-stakeholder collaborations on the role of leaders and managers within the global development sector.
Intellectual Skills
- Demonstrate analytical competence to assess the contribution of international management theory and practice to addressing global development issues and stakeholder impacts.
- Effectively assess and integrate an appropriate body of academic, organizational and practitioner literature.
- Synthesise and integrate theory and recognise how to apply it.
- Critically appraise the drivers, opportunities and constraints associated with digital development at national and global levels.
Practical Skills
- Formulate international development and socially responsible strategy and create appropriate organizational implementation and evaluation plans.
- Apply environmental analysis and organizational audit tools and techniques to the leadership and management of multi-stakeholder initiatives.
- Implement research using knowledge of research methods used in development and leadership.

Generic skills
- Equip participants with knowledge and skills to analyse the external and internal operating environments of MNE and international NGO's
- Critically evaluate the formation of MNE/Business and International NGO strategies with regard to their contribution to addressing global development issues from theoretical and practical perspectives.
- Analyse the implementation and impact of strategic decisions upon key stakeholders, particularly through consideration of new forms of business model, changing value chain dynamics and Corporate social responsibility and corporate entrepreneurship based collaborative partnerships.
- Develop practical understanding and managerial skills to lead and manage development in a global environment including dealing with people from different cultural and institutional backgrounds.
- Demonstrate skills of business and organizational audit and analysis, handling academic, organizational and practitioner literature, critical reflection of relationship between theory and practice
