This subject examines assessment of competency in a range of educational settings. Various approaches to the collection of assessment data are examined including observation, collection of artefacts, tests and the development and application of rubrics. Assessment design and management processes are discussed and critiqued with respect to validity and reliability perspectives. Ethical assessment processes are promoted, including considerations of and respect for culture, diversity, inclusion and social justice.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- Design objective and judgement-based assessments which prioritise reliability and validity considerations
- Appraise the impact of design processes on the quality of assessments
- Design assessment processes suitable for various educational settings from a validity and reliability perspective
- Critique the ability of assessment processes to promote ethical assessment for different stakeholder groups, including understanding of and respect for culture, diversity, inclusion and social justice.
