This practice-based subject focuses on the history, principles and techniques of business journalism in the context of rapidly changing communications technology and global capitalism. Students will learn basic skills for analysing the performance of businesses and conducting journalistic research on international business performance, as well as learning how to produce and edit financial and business journalism for a variety of multi-media formats and platforms.
Intended learning outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Analyse and evaluate the performance of international businesses under economic and socio-political conditions and generate well-researched journalistic stories that reflect a deep understanding of global market dynamics.
- Investigate contemporary international business and financial settings using primary and secondary research methods to identify and report on emerging issues and trends.
- Produce and edit clear, concise, and engaging business and financial journalism content across multiple digital platforms, adapting content appropriately for different media and audiences.
- Utilise different digital platforms to build awareness of the evolving international business journalism market, identifying opportunities and challenges for media professionals within this landscape.
- Critically analyse case studies of international business journalism, reflecting on the ethical dimensions and practices, and convey informed critiques of journalistic decisions.
