The overall aim of the subject is to complete a substantial research project requiring an independent investigation on an approved issue or research question in management or marketing, thus providing an additional way to consolidate and build upon the knowledge they have accumulated throughout their studies on a focused project. The research project will include selection, design and execution of a research study on a timely and relevant issue or question, independent work guided by an academic with expertise in the student's topic of interest, submission of a research report, and presentation and discussion of the study to an audience of peers, academics, and/or industry experts.
This 25-point research-based capstone subject is conducted online across two terms and only available to students enrolled in their final two terms of the Master of Business or to students with prior permission from the Academic Program Director.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Undertake a substantial research project requiring an independent investigation on an approved issue or research question in management or marketing.
- Devise a method of investigation to improve knowledge or understanding of the issue or research question identified.
- Collect and analyse data (qualitative and/or quantitative) to improve understanding of the chosen issue or research question.
- Write a paper on a selected, defined research question that, summarises the existing relevant literature, identifying and highlighting the gaps in a way that justifies the aims of the research study, describes the chosen research methodology(ies) and analytical technique(s), and presents and discusses the findings, and implications in the context of the existing relevant literature.
- Present and discuss the findings orally to an audience of peers, academics, and/or industry experts.
