Students studying French, German, Italian or Spanish in the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) or Graduate Diploma in Arts (Advanced) are permitted to take this individual reading subject subject to coordinator authorisation to enrol. After consultation with an appropriate member of staff who agrees to act as a supervisor, students wishing to take this subject should submit to the coordinator details of their proposed topic for approval. On completion of the subject students should be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of a particular topic in their chosen language.
Intended learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this subject should be able to:
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of a particular topic in Italian, French, German, Spanish or Russian culture and linguistics, and demonstrate the ability to analyse and to report on their reading in a manner appropriate to the methodology adopted.
Generic skills
Students who successfully complete this subject should be able to:
- Carry out research at an advanced level independently
- Apply theoretical knowledge in the analysis of literary texts or linguistic phenomena
- Structure and express clearly complex intellectual arguments.
