Chamber Music involves the formation of instrumental/vocal groupings of three or more players, according to repertoire requirements.
Students will develop chamber music skills and knowledge through the practical application of professional rehearsal techniques.
The subject involves the study and preparation of diverse chamber repertoire requiring individual part-preparation, regular group rehearsals and writing of program notes.
Students intending to enrol in Chamber Music must submit a Chamber Music Application on the Conservatorium Subject Enrolment Application Forms page.
Delivery
This subject is co-delivered with MUSI20013 Chamber Music 1, MUSI20014 Chamber Music 2, MUSI30019 Chamber Music 3, MUSI30020 Chamber Music 4, and MUSI40081 Honours Chamber Music 2.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- show technical development as chamber music players;
- perform selected repertoire to concert standard;
- demonstrate a capacity to think critically and independently in matters of corporate style, sonority, balance, ensemble, phrasing, blending and musical gesture;
- apply culturally informed choices to the performance style employed in particular repertoire;
- apply time and people management skills to rehearsal and performance leadership.
Generic skills
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- demonstrate a capacity to think critically and independently;
- study selected chamber repertoire to performance standard;
- apply time and people management skills to rehearsal and performance planning;
- demonstrate teamwork skills in rehearsal/performance groups numbering from two to ten persons.
