This elective subject builds on Orchestral Performance Practicum 1 by providing students a performance-focused, work-integrated learning experience with a professional orchestra. By attending and playing in rehearsals and through professional mentoring on orchestral techniques and excerpts, students gain practical rehearsal experience with, and further develop communication skills required by, a professional orchestra.
This subject is only available to Master of Music (Orchestral Performance) students.
Placement
This subject provides students with a placement opportunity for participation with a partnered professional orchestra. Students are required to complete 22-hours of placement. Students are responsible for identifying a suitable placement with support from the subject coordinator. All placements must be approved by the subject coordinator, typically through an audition.
Travel
This subject has a placement component that may require travel within Greater Melbourne, Victoria, or interstate.
Additional Costs
This subject may incur costs in addition to tuition fees. These costs include accommodation, food, and travel, to undertake chosen placement.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- demonstrate and critically evaluate standards in professional orchestral ensemble rehearsals;
- demonstrate appropriate rehearsal etiquette for professional situations;
- employ appropriate performance styles and practices;
- demonstrate and critically evaluate rehearsal practice for works studied.
