Students rehearse and perform alongside Conservatorium staff and invited professional musicians in intensive projects tailored to replicate industry-standard conditions.
They receive mentorship to refine their orchestral skills and model professional expectations.
Each project concludes with a recording session and/or public performance. Students reflect on the experience to consolidate their learning.
Delivery
This subject includes an intensive project week with rehearsals followed by a performance and/or recording session(s) over the 7-day intensive.
Students receive the repertoire at least 4 weeks prior to the intensive project week.
This subject is co-delivered with MUSI90257 Side-by-Side Project 2. Students cannot simultaneously enrol in co-taught subjects in the same study period.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- demonstrate an understanding of the performance level expected of a member of a professional symphony orchestra or chamber ensemble;
- demonstrate professional rehearsal and performance conduct;
- practice adaptability and responsiveness appropriate in the ensemble context;
- reflect on the creative possibilities and realities of the project experience.

On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- communicate effectively in oral and written language, and in musical performance;
- communicate constructively in diverse professional situations;
- give and receive constructive feedback;
