This subject focuses on strengthening expert knowledge of the theoretical approaches that inform music therapy practice and research.
Topics will incorporate links to public policy and systems, and critically analyse implications for theory informing music therapy. Students will create connections between theoretical perspectives and real-world scenarios, and construct and appraise their own original, situated theoretical perspective.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- formulate and communicate a theoretical stance informed by a relevant combination of contextual, personal, and/or diagnostic factors;
- design and appraise practice processes and procedures that are responsive to public policy and systemic considerations;
- critically evaluate the impact of real-world considerations (personal and contextual) on the use of theoretical approaches.
