(A) Health Policy (10 hours) Convener: Dr J Satur
Lectures and seminars on the role of health policy and the ideals and objectives that underlie health law and ethics, the dental profession, and health services research in Australia.
Topics include: policy making, stakeholders, processes and evidence, public health policy and oral health, and some current dilemmas in health care.
Complete class assessment tasks as required by the convenor.
(B) Sociology (20 hours) Convener: Dr J Livingstone
Lectures and seminars introducing sociological inquiry and health sociology and their contribution to health and research design.
Topics include: concepts and theories on the arrangement of society and the influences that shape it; how people form values and cultures; class, status, gender and ethnicity; the influences of political, socio-demographic and socio-economic factors on health; the sociology of health and illness and its influences on research methodology.
Complete class assessment tasks as required by the convenor.
(C) Oral Health Practice (60 hours) Convenor Brenda Ryan
Lectures, seminars, field work and case presentations as timetabled and practical clinical work in the Melbourne Dental School Pre-clinical Laboratory and Clinics, providing treatment of patients under the supervision of Melbourne Dental School clinical and academic staff.
Complete class assessment tasks as required by the convenor.
