A supervised thesis on a topic to be approved by the School's honours coordinator. Students will be required to attend weekly seminars and present a class paper based on their thesis topic.

Intended learning outcomes

On completion of this subject, students should be able to:

  • Gain experience in the production of a sustained piece of philosophical writing
  • Contribute towards the solution of the selected question
  • Explore the literature relevant to the thesis topic
  • Conduct comprehensive research in the field of philosophy
  • Effectively communicate their philosophical ideas through clear, concise writing and articulate oral presentations.

Generic skills

On completion of this subject, students should be able to:

  • Think critically
  • Analyse and evaluate concepts, theories, and arguments
  • Develop and present arguments for or against a position
  • Consider multiple viewpoints and arguments for those viewpoints
  • Articulate ideas, concepts, and interpretations with clarity and coherence
  • Engage in critical reflection, synthesis, and evaluation of research-based and scholarly literature.
