This subject is intended as part of a student's preparation for writing their postgraduate psychology thesis by ensuring that they have an extensive knowledge of the contemporary literature in that area along with an understanding of the methodology underlying relevant research. This review of the literature will enable them to determine a pertinent research question by identifying a gap in the literature. Students will conduct their own research projects as outlined in PSYC90095 Thesis (Masters/coursework) Part 1 / PSYC90096 Thesis (Masters/coursework) Part 2.
Intended learning outcomes
Knowledge
On completion of this subject, students should:
- Acquire a familiarity with the contemporary research literature relating to their thesis topic.
Skills
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate the existing literature relevant to their research project.
Application of Knowledge and Skills
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Expertly synthesise, interpret and integrate research findings from multiple sources.
Generic skills
Students will develop their own skills in critically evaluating scientific literature. They will refine their writing skills, and enhance their skills in developing a written argument.

- 527CL Master of Psychology (Clinical Psychology)
- 080CL Master of Psychology (Clinical Psychology)/Doctor of Philosophy
- 527CN Master of Psychology (Clinical Neuropsychology)
- 080CN Master of Psychology (Clinical Neuropsychology)/Doctor of Philosophy

Recommended background knowledge
Completion of APAC approved psychology studies to fourth-year (Honours) level.
