Supervised field education provides a focused practice learning experience. Students will deepen their practice experience in areas including the integration of social work theory, knowledge, values, and practice, further develop practice skills, increase their knowledge of the interface between policy, research and evidence-based practice and increase their understanding of the organisational contexts and fields of practice. The second placement is comprised of two subjects taken consecutively: SCWK90050 Supervised Field Placement 2A and SCWK90051 Supervised Field Placement 2B. This subject constitutes the first half (250 hours) of the second supervised field placement required within the Master of Social Work course.
Intended learning outcomes
Knowledge
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Take reasoned risks, identify personal feelings and experiences and expose this practice to the scrutiny of the supervisor.
- Identify and describe relevant policy development frameworks to inform practice
Skills
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Execute critical thinking in practice (such as assessments, data analysis and recommendations, and interventions) that require professional decision making.
Application of Knowledge and Skills
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Operate within the communication and record keeping systems and expectations of the placement agency.
- Demonstrate capacity to support clients, research/ project participants and stakeholders to know and understand their legal and moral rights and responsibilities
- Engage in the evaluation of their competence as demonstrated during the placement
