Ever wondered what the connection between #metoo campaigns and the demand to decolonise institutions are? These social movements locate an awareness of how social inequalities are reproduced. Inequalities: Future Challenges will introduce students to core themes of inequality and how this can map onto social differences from a sociological perspective. Students will be introduced to key theoretical concepts and weekly examples to understand social inequality. Subject content with include, but not be limited to how inequality across racialisation processes, class, gender, and sexuality, can be reproduced in society.
Intended learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this subject should be able to:
- Demonstrate a sociological understanding of contemporary social inequalities such as class, gender, and ethnicity
- Have a good understanding of the different dimensions involved in social inequalities
- Demonstrate an ability to apply sociological theories, concepts and evidence to the analyse sources of social inequalities and how they are reproduced
- Communicate sociological analyses of inequality using both oral and written formats.

Students who successfully complete this subject should be able to:
- Develop oral communication and written communication skills
- Demonstrate collaborative learning, problem solving and team work
- Demonstrate statistical reasoning and application of theory to practice
- Demonstrate interpretation and analysis, and critical thinking
