This subject introduces students to business and provides an overview of key foundational issues in strategy, marketing, managing people, capital budgeting and sustainability, helping students develop a holistic view of organisations. The subject also introduces structured thinking and decision trees to help students develop mindsets and tools for approaching business issues logically and rationally.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Analyse how the economic and social context within which an organisation operates impacts the organisation.
- Apply selected frameworks, decision aids, and tools in managing day-to-day activities, including managing teams, business units or an organisation.
- Analyse business issues with a holistic perspective.
- Identify an organisation's competitive advantages and then assess whether its business model will allow it to successfully exploit its advantages.
- Identify and evaluate the factors critical for implementing the competitive strategy necessary to achieve the organisation's purpose.
- Work effectively in a team.
