The student will negotiate a suitable thesis topic with a supervisor, attend meetings and supervision sessions as required. Enrolment in the thesis is across two consecutive semesters and students must enrol in the subject in each semester to ensure they are meeting the full 50 point requirement for the year-long subject.

Intended learning outcomes

On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to:

  • Devise and complete a major creative project involving consistent and independent work.
  • Solve complex problems in the field of creative arts.
  • Articulate the principles and process of designing, conducting, and completing a major creative project.
  • Create work that engages where appropriate with contemporary social issues.
  • Explicate the theoretical underpinnings and implications of their creative work.

Generic skills

At the completion of this subject, students should gain the following generic skills:

  • The ability to conceive, design and develop a research project under supervision
  • The ability to accept and make productive use of critical feedback and critical discussion
  • The ability to work on a self-devised research and creative projects independently
  • The ability to present their work in public settings.

Hurdle requirement: 1. Attendance hurdle requirement: Students are required to attend a minimum of 80% of supervision meetings in order to qualify to have their written work assessed. Throughout the teaching periodN/A
Hurdle requirement: 2. Late Penalty and Assessment hurdle requirement: Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at five per cent (5%) of the possible marks available for the assessment task per day or part thereof. All pieces of assessment must be submitted to pass the subject. Each submitted assessment must be complete, constitute a genuine attempt to address the requirements of the task and will not be accepted after 20 University business days from the original assessment due date without written approval. This subject is taught over two consecutive semesters. Total time commitment for the subject is approximately 680 hours, inclusive of two semesters (thesis Part 1 and Part 2).

Additional delivery details

This is part of a 50 point thesis subject, continuing over two consecutive study periods.

Students are required to enrol in:

  • CWRI40015 Creative Writing Thesis Part 1 (25 points) and
  • CWRI40016 Creative Writing Thesis Part 2 (25 points), consecutively.

Students will receive a ‘CNT’ grade in the part 1 and results will be entered if and when both part 1 and 2 are completed.
