This second year subject in the Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Implants) will enable students to continue to develop their knowledge and skills in placement and restoration of dental implants. Students finalise patient care initiated in the first-year subject (DENT90033 - Advanced Clinical Practice 1) and will continue to engage in a variety of implant-related learning activities across multiple topics including surgery, biology and pathology, radiography, occlusion, restorative materials, prosthesis design and maintenance.
Learning activities will include seminars, pre-clinical activities and clinical patient care.
Students will engage in clinical activities at Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne. Students will develop interdisciplinary links with other dental specialty programs to develop skills in intra- and interprofessional collaborative practice to provide comprehensive person-centred care.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of the subject, students should be able to:
- Apply the principles of treatment planning and case selection of implant cases
- Critically evaluate the scientific evidence related to implant dentistry.
- Demonstrate clinical competency in implant placement, restoration and management.
- Liaise with other dental specialties in relation to implant treatment.
- Demonstrate clinical proficiency in providing prosthodontic care to patients.
